Three new restaurants to look out for this fall, and the return of another
With fall comes a slew of new restaurants: On the Upper West Side, the owner of popular Southern restaurant Jacob’s Pickles will open his fourth spot in the neighborhood, a bar called Tiki Chick at 517 Amsterdam Ave. Further uptown in Harlem, former Le Grand Dakar chef Pierre Thiam will open Teranga, a Senegalese restaurant in 2,000 square feet overlooking Central Park; foods from Nigeria, Mali, the Ivory Coast, and Guinea will also be present come September at 1280 Fifth Ave. Finally, above the upcoming Hill Country Barbecue Market in Brooklyn, Boerum Hill dive bar Hank’s Saloon will open at 345 Adams St., in advance of its closing in Boerum Hill this year.
Say goodbye to Press Shop
After less than two years, sandwich restaurant the Press Shop has closed. The Noho store served various cuisine-inspired sandwiches, such as an Italian one and one inspired by banh mi. It was also at the forefront of the Instagram neon sign movement, with its “eat carbs” neon sign.
By Chloe continues to pull in a celebrity crowd
Vegan burger and salad chain By Chloe had some famous people stop by recently, namely actor Zac Efron and singer Ariana Grande. They both — separately — went to the 22nd Street location, Efron with friends and Grande with fiancé and SNL comic Pete Davidson. Grande and Davidson reportedly ate some avocado toast.
